The Destensitizing of America-Violence on TV

1. TV is a big thing in life, it's the most important part of a child's life. It's entertaining, funny, and classic. But I do believe that violence on tv will effect the child, especially when they have broken homes. Children who spend their after school time alone because parents work, will find themselves learning behaviors not from their parents but from television. I feel as though that the behavior of the child does come from bad schools too. Children who view shows in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated or left unpunished are more likely to imitate what they see. Some of the most objectionable shows are cartoon's and other children shows. Cartoons can be violent too, not just like any other violent program. I think if you sit a kid in front of a tv and let them watch whatever, is a bad parent or guardian. The cartoon shows are the ones that portray violence "unrealistically" without consequences or punishment. I feel as though if you show a young kid somebody being run over and they pop back up with a harm, is a problem. I would recommend the parents to limit their child's exposure to these negative influences, because they are going to end up doing these violent things to people. Violence is an effective promotional device. And a strong influence to kids. Kids have no other way to react to violence only just to imitate it.

2. Promos have only a very time to show something interesting enough to attract the viewer. The easiest things to feature are those that  require little explanation like violence and sex. Even promotions for situation comedies feature what little action may actually be in the show. The viewers get a wrong impression of the show and want to watch it more. Violent promos frequently are run during programs geared for children or on completely non-violent shows.

Is Mainstream News Dead?

I do feel that television news is dead because no one really watch television news anymore at my age. News has now become accessible anywhere. As of, television, the internet, your cell phone, iPods and any number of technologies. We have grown less dependent on just television news and have a greater ability of trusted sources. I do believe that some daily news programs are worth watching. Some news programs don't be concerned with covering everything, every minute something happens. I do feel that people would rather watch the news on the internet, or get some information off of twitter than just watching the daily news on television. And just finding something bad happening to someone, which no one wants to hear. But I do feel that the Mainstream news is dead, because overall, people would rather go on the internet than just sit and watch a 24 hour news report about someone doing something or complaining about something. I think some people choose to watch Comedy Central and get a laugh out than just watching a 24 hour daily news that don't seem to interest people.
I think the Comedy news shows, the Daily Show are so popular with the younger generation because, they sometimes make a joke out of things, and it gets more interesting daily for the younger generation. I do feel that this is a quality way to obtain news information because it seems to draw the biggest attention to this lack of faith in mainstream media.

Visual Literacy

The Washingtonian Magazine: The Washingtonian Magazine created this image. A technique that is used in photo shop. It looks like they just copied and paste him onto a black background, and contrast the photo to make it look darker than it was.The color, lightning, and angle affect the impact of the image by adding a black background to it's picture and editing the image to fit the background. The appears largest in this picture is Obama, having on swim trunks. It looks like he was going for a swim. I think this image influence the interpretation by how the image looks to other people, and why did they copy and paste him onto this background that doesn't look right. The thing that's included in this picture is Obama, and I think that a brighter background is missing from this image.I don't think that this image create an emotional reaction.I don't believe that this image appear truthful, it's like they just copied and paste it, and wanted to be done with it.

In Britney's Magazine: It looks like whoever created this image used photo shop to change the images on the background, and used one of the techniques in photo shop to change how she looks. I think one of the techniques they did in this photo is making her skin lighter than it is, and air brush it to make it not look like how she looked before, and made her skin look softer. Looks like they changed the background to make it not look professional and re sized her body to fit the magazine image. The color, lightning, and angle affects the image by Britney not looking like herself, she looks like someone else.I think the thing that appears the largest in this photo is the customized cartoons that they copy and pasted on the background. In this picture, there are different pictures of Britney doing different things in this image. I think the thing that is missing in this image is that they should have sharpened the picture more and make it look more like her.I don't think that this picture creates an emotional reaction.I don't believe that this image is truthful.

The Go Magazine: I think the person that created this image wanted him to be bigger than he is and skinner. The techniques that was used in this image was that making his head look bigger than his body, and softening his skin up.The color, lightning, and angle affect how this image looks because if it wasn't just an plain image with no techniques or nothing, then this image would look plain.I think the thing that appears the largest in this image is his head. It looks like they made his head look bigger, but his head doesn't  fit his body.I think the thing that is included in this picture is the color of his clothes and  the background color, to fit how the image looks.I don't feel that this image creates an emotional reaction.I don't believe that this image appears truthful.
I feel that it is important for indivduals to be aware and learn about the visual manipulation. Some people judge how people look on magazines because sometimes they look at the person that's on the magazine and imagine themselves looking the same as them. I feel as though if people wouldn't put fake images on a magazine to make them not look like themselves, then they would have people doing the same.
